Ayahuasca, San Pedro and the Andean ceremonies are traditional spiritual practices. We take your safety seriously, and part of that is being clear about what these ceremonies are, what they are not, and what we ask of you. Please read this page before booking.
Not a medical treatment
Our ceremonies are spiritual and cultural practices. They are not a medical or psychological treatment and do not replace one. Nothing on this website is medical advice. Never stop a prescribed medication without talking to your doctor first.
Health screening
Before we confirm your booking, you fill in our Preliminary Diagnostic Form and sign an informed consent. If your answers show a possible issue, we ask for an exam with a specialist before the ceremony, at the participant’s cost. We may decline a booking if a ceremony would not be safe for you.
Who should not take part
Ayahuasca is not suitable for people taking antidepressants (SSRIs, MAOIs) or certain other medications, people with heart conditions or a history of psychosis, or pregnant women. San Pedro is not advised for people with heart conditions or a history of psychosis, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. All participants must be 18 or over. What you may experience
Ayahuasca commonly causes nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, which are part of the traditional purge, as well as changes in heart rate and blood pressure. Both ayahuasca and San Pedro can bring up intense emotions and memories. Cusco sits at about 3,400 meters, so arrive at least one day before your ceremony, two or three if you can, to adjust to the altitude.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for giving us complete and truthful information about your health and medication, for following the preparation guidelines and the diet, and for following the instructions of the masters and the team during the ceremony. Your participation is voluntary.
Emergencies and insurance
The masters, a facilitator and a translator stay with the group throughout every ceremony. In a medical emergency, we take the participant to the nearest clinic. We recommend that you travel with insurance that covers medical care in Peru.
Legal status
The traditional use of ayahuasca is legal in Peru and recognized as part of the nation’s cultural heritage. Taking ayahuasca out of the country is a different matter, and its legal status at home depends on where you live. More in is ayahuasca legal in Peru?
