1 Day Ayahuasca Ceremony in Cusco

Cusco pulls people in for a lot of reasons — Machu Picchu, the markets, the mountains — but for some travelers there’s a quieter reason underneath all of that. They’ve heard about ayahuasca, read the stories, and want to sit with the medicine themselves before leaving Peru. If a full week isn’t in the cards, our 1 Day Ayahuasca Retreat in Cusco offers that chance in a single night, guided by shamans who’ve been doing this work long before tourism ever reached this valley.

You won’t need to clear your calendar for a week or commit to a jungle lodge days away from any signal. The ceremony takes place close to Cusco, in a space built specifically for this kind of work, and by the following evening you’re free to head back into the city — or onward to Machu Picchu — carrying whatever the medicine handed you.

Information

Ayahuasca Retreat Itinerary

Day 1:

We will begin with a Coca Leaf Reading, an ancient practice that helps identify imbalances or challenges in your life through a personal spiritual diagnosis. Based on this interpretation, we will focus on the areas that require harmonization to support your healing and well-being.

Next, we will perform the Ritual of Cleansing Negative Energies, designed to purify the body and spirit of dense energies, negative vibrations, or accumulated adverse situations. This ritual helps release energy blockages, balance vibrations, and cleanse karma or negative feelings that may have accumulated in the body and spirit.

At 11:00 a.m., we will begin the Ayahuasca Ceremony, a profound process of emotional, psychological, and spiritual healing. During this experience, participants can reconnect with their deepest feelings, reflect on their past, understand their present, and gain clarity for the future.

We will then continue with the Offering Ceremony to Pachamama (Mother Earth), a ritual of gratitude and spiritual connection with nature. In this ceremony, we give thanks for life, food, and all the blessings received, while offering prayers and requests for personal and collective well-being.

The day concludes with the Blossoming Bath, a ritual of protection and spiritual harmonization that strengthens the connection with the energies of the universe and sacred plants. This ceremonial bath helps attract positive energies, renew the spirit, and strengthen energetic protection.

At the end of the ceremonies, an integration circle will be held, where participants can share their experiences and visions. The shaman will provide guidance and explain the meaning of the experiences encountered during the ceremony.

Following this, a dinner will be served in accordance with the traditional diet recommended for this type of ceremony, and finally, around 7:00 p.m., the return to the city of Cusco will take place.

This experience is part of the ancestral spiritual traditions that make Ayahuasca in Peru a practice recognized for its profound cultural and spiritual value.

Highlights

⚠️ The ayahuasca retreat Cusco Peru is not recommended for people with certain medical conditions or psychiatric history.

⚠️ A dietary preparation (Ayahuasca Dieta) is recommended at least 2-3 days before the ceremony: avoid alcohol, pork, red meat, spicy food, and drugs.

⚠️ This is a sacred experience, not for recreational purposes. We honor and respect the ancestral tradition of Amazonian medicine.

⚠️We warmly invite you to arrive in Cusco at least two days before your retreat so your body has time to gently adapt to the altitude. Many travelers feel the effects of the high elevation, and arriving on the same day of your retreat would make it unsafe for us to serve Ayahuasca. In such a case, your retreat would need to be moved to the next available date, and unfortunately refunds are not possible. This guideline is simply to protect your well-being, as experiencing altitude sickness during ceremony can pose serious health risks.

⚠️During your acclimatization, you’ll need to arrange your own accommodation. If you’d like, we are happy to recommend trusted hotels that offer everything you may need, including airport transfers, so that your arrival in Cusco feels smooth and stress-free.

⚠️On the morning of your retreat, we will gather at Plaza Nazarenas at 9:00 am and travel together by shuttle to the retreat center. For breakfast, please enjoy something light such as fresh fruit and juice, avoiding bread and dairy products, so your body is well-prepared for the medicine.

⚠️Because Ayahuasca is a sacred and powerful plant medicine, it’s important that your body is as clear as possible. We encourage you to begin a gentle, natural detox two weeks before the retreat, avoiding substances or medications that could interfere with the experience.

  • Refined sugars
  • Red meat
  • Junk food
  • Salt and pepper

What Is a 1 Day Ayahuasca Retreat in Cusco?

A 1 day ayahuasca retreat is, at its core, a full ceremony compressed into a single day: preparation in the morning, the ayahuasca ceremony itself, and a closing integration circle before heading back. It’s not a shortened version of a longer retreat, nor a cheaper copy of what the seven-day centers offer. It’s a different format, built for people who have limited time but don’t want to skip the real experience.

The medicine is served following the same Amazonian tradition that holds up the longer retreats — the same icaros, the same respect for the process, the same individual attention within the group. What changes is the length of the program, not the depth of what happens inside the ceremony itself.

How the Ceremony Works

After drinking the ayahuasca, the body usually starts responding within 30 to 60 minutes — shifts in perception, sometimes nausea, visions that come and go. The shaman sings icaros through most of the night, and those songs aren’t decoration. They set the rhythm of the ceremony and help hold anyone moving through a harder moment.

Facilitators stay awake and present through the entire session, ready to support anyone who needs extra physical or emotional attention.

Where the Retreat Takes Place

The ceremony center sits away from the noise of the city, in a setting built to hold this kind of work without Cusco’s distractions.

Not everyone needs a week-long retreat to get something real out of ayahuasca. The real question isn’t how much time you have — it’s what you’re actually looking for.

First-Time Participants

If you’ve never tried the medicine, a one-day format is often the most sensible way in. It gives you a guided first ceremony, inside a safe framework, without the pressure of holding several nights of deep work in a row. Plenty of travelers arrive in Cusco unsure whether this is for them, do this ceremony, and decide from there whether they want to come back for something longer.

When a Longer Retreat Is Recommended

That said, there are situations where one night isn’t enough. If you’re carrying long-standing grief, unresolved trauma, or you’re in the middle of a major life transition, the honest answer is that a 3, 5, or 7-day retreat will give you the space to integrate between ceremonies — something a single session can’t offer. It’s not about intensity. It’s about having time to process.

Quite a few people actually go the other way around: they do the one-day ceremony as a first contact, and weeks or months later come back for a longer retreat once they’ve had time to sit with what came up.

Our Medical & Screening Process

Before confirming your participation, your medical and psychiatric history is reviewed through a preliminary diagnostic form. This isn’t paperwork for its own sake — certain medications and conditions aren’t compatible with ayahuasca, and catching that ahead of time is what prevents serious complications during the ceremony.

Who Leads the Ceremony

The ceremonies are led by an Amazonian shaman with lineage knowledge — someone who inherited this practice through generations, not from a weekend course. He’s supported by bilingual facilitators trained to hold the emotional and logistical side of the process, so the shaman can stay focused on the spiritual work while the team handles the practical details.

Group Size and Setting

Groups are kept small on purpose (Min. 1 – Max. 6)

A small group means the shaman can actually be there for you if something gets difficult, instead of you getting lost among thirty people in the same room.

Going through an Ayahuasca Ritual in Cusco is a very intimate and transforming trip. For travelers, seekers, or first-time attendees short on time, a 1-day ayahuasca ritual provides a significant introduction to this ancestral Amazonian medicine inside a safe, directed, and courteous environment.

For those who hear the need to relate, release, and gain insight—without making a multi-day retreat—our one-day ayahuasca ritual in Cusco is designed.

✔️ Yes — for some people.

A one-day ayahuasca ceremony can be enough if:

  • It is your first experience
  • You are seeking clarity rather than deep trauma work
  • You have limited time in Peru
  • You want to feel the medicine before committing to a longer retreat

However, if you are working through long-standing emotional patterns, trauma, or major life transitions, we usually recommend a 3, 5, or 7-day ayahuasca retreat, which allows for integration and multiple ceremonies.

👉 Many participants begin with the 1-day ceremony and later return for a longer retreat.
